How to clean disaster damaged clothing
- Separate the wet items as quickly as possible to keep the colors of clothing from running into each other.
- Take the linens and clothes outdoors and shake off the dry mud or dirt on clothes. Wash off the extremely dirty and muddy items. Avoid clogging the drain as you wash. If you do not have a way in water, you can simply dry out the things.
- Take off the burnt or spoiled clothes from the other unaffected clothes.
- If it is possible, you should soak the badly soiled items overnight in cold water and detergent. Squeeze them out and make air dry if you are not able to wash them with machine right away.
- Check out the labels marked on the clothes and linens and wash them off in warm water and detergent.
- Add chlorine bleach to the washing process as it will remove the mildew. it will also help to sanitize the clothing. Using the bleach can make some fabrics fade and damages others. You can also use the other sanitizers, such as pine oil cleaners.
- If the item is stained after you wash, continue washing before drying. Drying may also make some stains rather difficult to get rid of.
- Sort out the clothing that is to be dry cleaned. Items that are to be dry cleaned should be first air dried. You should take them to a cleaner as quickly as possible. Furs and leathers are usually worth the cost of professional cleaning.
- If you want to clean leather yourself, wash the mud off and dry the leather slowly. Keep it away from heat or sunlight while drying.

- Hang your bedding to dry out as soon as possible.
- After the bedding is dry, you should brush off the excess soil and dirt.
- Pillows, if washable, generally should be discarded if doused with dirty flodwater.
- Put sheets and pillow cases with two complete washing rounds. Use the adulterated liquid chlorine bleach to kill germs. You can then abide the normal drying process.
- Put the washable blankets made of acrylic and cotton through two washing cycles.
